The Bed
The bed is the flat surface where the game is played. Traditionally made from slate, it provides a smooth and level playing area. Slate is preferred because it offers durability and ensures consistent ball response. A well-constructed bed is typically around one inch thick, allowing for precise shots and accurate gameplay.

Pockets
A standard pool table features six pockets: four at each corner and two along the sides. These pockets serve as the goal for the balls during play. The design and size of the pockets can vary depending on the type of pool being played—American pool tables have larger pockets compared to snooker tables, which have smaller, more narrow pockets designed for precision.

Rails
Rails are the wooden parts that encase the bed of the table. They provide structural support and are covered with cushions that help bounce balls back into play. The top rail runs along the length of the table, while side rails provide additional support on either side. The quality of the rails can significantly affect gameplay, as they influence how balls rebound off them.

Cushions
The cushions are soft, rubberized bumpers located inside the rails. They are designed to absorb impact when balls collide with them, allowing for controlled rebounds. High-quality cushions ensure that balls bounce off at predictable angles, which is essential for strategic play.

Legs
The legs support the weight of the entire table and must be sturdy enough to hold up heavy slate beds without sagging. Most pool tables come with adjustable legs to ensure that the playing surface remains level, which is critical for fair gameplay.

Frame
The frame holds everything together and provides stability to the entire structure. Typically made from hardwoods like oak or maple, a strong frame prevents warping over time and maintains the integrity of the slate bed.

Cloth
The cloth covering the bed is often made from wool or polyester felt, providing a smooth surface for ball movement. The color of the cloth can vary; however, green is traditionally used as it resembles grass on a golf course, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the game.

Slate Support
Underneath the slate bed, there are support structures designed to hold its weight evenly across all areas of the table. This includes double main beams that provide extra support to prevent sagging over time, ensuring longevity and consistent playability.
