Rules of Heyball Masters
Lag for Break
The lag is the first shot of the match and determines the order of play. The player who wins the lag chooses who will break first. The referee places a ball on each side of the table behind the head string. Both players shoot their balls simultaneously, aiming to contact the top cushion (the short cushion near the foot spot) and return. The ball that comes to rest closest to the bottom cushion (the short cushion near the head string) wins the lag.
A lag is considered invalid if a player's ball:
Crosses the table's center line into the opponent's area
Fails to contact the top cushion
Contacts the top cushion more than once
Is pocketed or leaves the table
Contacts a side cushion or rests in the corner pocket mouth after passing the bottom cushion
Players must re-lag if:
One player shoots significantly later than the other
The referee cannot determine which ball is closer to the bottom cushion
Both lags are invalid
Re-Spotting Balls
When balls need to be re-spotted, the referee will place them as close as possible to their original positions. If an obstructing ball prevents this, the ball will be placed on the table's longitudinal axis between the foot spot and top cushion, as close to the foot spot as possible without touching other balls. If the entire line is blocked, the ball will be positioned as close to the foot spot as possible along the longitudinal axis. Players must accept the position determined by the referee.
